Awards season comes to its big ending this evening with the Oscars, and we’ve loved seeing the best-dressed celebrities descend on the red carpet with stylish outfits and even more gorgeous hairstyles.

Whilst we may dream of wearing Couture, the chances are it’s just not going to work well in our local wine bar and we’re going to have to keep to the beauty and hairstyles if we want to replicate the looks we see on the red carpet.

And there’s plenty to choose from too, with the help of celebrity hairstylist Asgar Saboo, we look to the hottest red carpet hairstyle trends and share some tips on how to recreate the looks ourselves.

Retro Curls

We've seen this look numerous times at the Oscars and on plenty of other red carpets too. There's no chance that this style will ever diminish, simply because it looks so elegant and sophisticated.

Reese Witherspoon looks beautiful wearing it below, and it can easily be recreated at home for a special event or wedding you have to attend.

A volume-boosting mousse is the best way to start, adding it to your locks before you blow dry for an added root lift. Use a curling wand to create tight curls in your hair, and ensure that they all face inwards towards your face. To make sure that your curls stay in place, pin them in place and allow to cool whilst they're in their pin position, and keep them like this till you're ready to leave.

Once you age, take out all of the pins and brush out your curls using a paddle brush, you might need to move the curls into place with your fingers, but once you have, spray with plenty of hairspray to make sure they stay in place.

Up-do’s

Up-do's are a great choice because there are so many different types that can be worn, plus they're the easiest way to show off the dress the A-List are wearing. We love them when they're complimented with accessories like we can see with Emma Stone below.

A simple bun can be extremely effective too, we love the look that was favoured by Jennifer Lawrence in 2013 when she won her first Oscar. The key to remember with these styles, grips and pins are your best friend, keep them in your handbag too, they're handy to have if your style starts to feel a little loose later on in the day or evening.

Slick and Sultry

We love how little effort is seemingly needed with this style, there is plenty of glamour to be had with this gorgeous look too.

Angelina Jolie often chooses this style on the red carpet, as does Jennifer Aniston, and the finish is always impeccable. If you're wanting to opt for this style, a shine spray is a good option because you'll get an extra dose of gloss to your hair at the end which makes hair look healthy and strong.

Pixie Crop

Not so much a style as a cut, the pixie crop is definitely a daring look, but it looks beautiful if you have the right face shape. Some of our favourites over the years included Michelle Williams, Carey Mulligan, Lily Collins, Scarlett Johansson, Maggie Gyllenhaal and Charlize Theron. But there have been plenty of celebrities to take inspiration from if you're willing to go for the chop.

These haircuts are great because they don't need a lot of styling, and don't require a lot of upkeep through the evening either. A wax or gum product is just need to ensure your style is held in place.

Perfect Ponytails

The ponytail is an anything but boring style, and we love how many different variants we've seen on the red carpet over the years. Gwyneth Paltrow's low and sleek style seen below is relatively simple to recreate.

Whilst we also love Kate Beckinsale's signature pony look which is always bouncing with volume. The trick to this look is plenty of backcombing at the roots to give it lots of volume.
