Baz Luhrmann turns his attention to Netflix with The Get Down, a series in which he produces as well as directs the first two episodes and the season finale.
Focusing on six kids and set in New York in the seventies, the series sees them battle through their community which is rife with poverty and violence, and turn to music and dance as a means of escapism.

The actor, Tremaine Brown Jr, was discovered on the NYC subway. The 14-year-old dancer, rapper and actor would hone his skills on the subway, and it was there he was discovered by the casting director for The Get Down.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Cadillac
Cadillac has a lot to live up to, his mum is the South Bronx heroin Queenpin, Fat Annie, and he has plenty of insecurities because of it. He's quite unpredictable and believes he has a lot to prove.
Herizen Guardiola as Mylene Cruz
Mylene comes from a respected family within the community, and she has big dreams of a music career. She's struggling between her family's strict values and wanting to follow her dreams.
Justice Smith as Ezekial ‘Books’ Figeuro
Books is quick witted, extremely clever, and excellent rapper. He's got plenty of charm, but is it enough to secure the girl of his dreams, Mylene.
Jaden Smith as Marcus ‘Dizzee’ Kipling
The eldest Kipling brother is Dizzee, he's observant and expresses himself through graffiti and art. He wants to life his life to the full, and sometimes that means being a little dangerous.
