Denim is always going to have a permanent fixture in our wardrobes, and through the seasons and years it’ll be given a little nip/tuck here and there to update it for the season ahead, these are the pieces you need to own in 2018.

There are plenty of styles to choose from for your spring/summer 2018 wardrobe when it comes to denim, some of which you’ll already have lurking in the depths of your clothing rails, others might be new styles to invest in.

It’s hard to find fault with denim when it can be worn so many different ways.

Crop flare jeans

Not only has flared denim risen in the style ranks, but it’s also risen up our ankles as cropped flared jeans become the must-have shape to have in your wardrobe in 2018. That’s not to say full-length flared jeans should be snuffed at, it’s just that fashion brands are favouring the cropped style.

These style of jeans are great for summer for showing off your gorgeous shoes, and look great when paired with mules, trainers or heels. The high waisted fit is great for tucking into jeans to create a gorgeous silhouette and a frayed hem is ideal for giving them a dishevelled edge in the most polished way.

Jacket

Jean jackets are the ultimate piece to see you through the spring summer months in style, worn with pretty much anything they’re easy to throw on and instantly add an edge to your look. Pretty much every cool fashion label had their own take on them for the runways, with Vetements collaborating with Levi’s and Off-White opting for the cropped style, and then classic boxy shapes were sent down the runways at Tibi, Adam Selman and Calvin Klein.

Embrace double denim with open arms and don’t discount black denim jackets either, they might seem like the less obvious choice but you’ll get just as much wear out of them.

Straight jeans

Straight leg jeans have enjoyed a revival for a couple of seasons now, but we’re still enjoying this freshened up denim look in comparison with skinny jeans – especially when the weather gets a little stickier – well, we hope at lease.

Straight leg jeans have previously focused on light, vintage washes, but this year there’s also a focus on the dark washes too – which means they look particularly great dressed up for an evening look too.

Favour your lighter wash straight leg jeans for the weekends when worn with your favourite white trainers and slogan t-shirt, and then opt for a dark wash paired with a silk cami and heeled mules for an easy-to-wear date-night look through summer.

Denim Culottes

Denim culottes or cropped wide leg jeans are a standout denim look for the spring/summer season and they’re really easy to wear too. Get the right cut on your leg and you can wear them with flats, even if you’re on the shorter side. They also look great worn with heels too, we particularly love the light colours for the evening.

Denim Skirt

The denim skirt was given endless looks on the runway this season, we loved Simonette Ravizza’s pretty take on the look with a frill detail, Tibi opted for a longer length skirt that still had plenty of movement in it, and Dior chose to embellish their denim skirts with crystals all over. There were endless denim skirt styles that took to the runway this season, and that means the same for the styling opportunities too.

Embroidered and embellished

Much like last spring/summer our denim is given a new lease of life with embellishments and embroidery galore. Stella McCartney went for stars, Marc Jacobs has opted for pom poms and Etro has gone for tassels, there are plenty of looks to be had – which style will you choose?
