Mac Cosmetics UK
Mac Cosmetics is a high-end makeup and skincare brand. In the UK, there are standalone Mac stores as well as concessions in department stores such as Debenhams and House of Fraser. Here are some of the products that are available from Mac:
- Eyeshadow palettes
- Nail polish
- Makeup remover
- Brushes and accessories
Mac is probably most well known for its lipsticks which have gathered a cult following due to their high-quality pigment. The most popular colour is Velvet Teddy, a brown-toned nude that gained popularity when it was rumoured that Kylie Jenner wore it. Another popular colour is Ruby Woo, a blue-toned red that suits all skin colours.
Celebrities often collaborate with Mac. There is the Viva Glam collection, where proceeds go to the Aids Fund. The Viva Glam collection has been fronted by celebrities since 1994, most recently Ariana Grande. Caitlyn Jenner also created a lipstick with the brand named Brave. Mac also collaborates with film and TV studios- recently there has been a Simpsons collection, Cinderella collection and a Star Wars collection.
If you don't live near a Mac store, you can shop the products online. You may even be able to get a free sample with your order. Standard delivery is free and takes 2-5 working days, named delivery costs £4.95, next day delivery costs £6.50 or you can opt for click and collect from your local Mac store.
Mac Cosmetics Jobs
Whether you see yourself working in retail as a Mac artist or in the corporate office, there may be a vacancy for you. Mac was one of the first makeup brands to use professional artists at the counter rather than salespeople. Mac aims to be at the forefront of trends, bringing backstage knowledge to customers. To become a retail artist, you must have strong experience in both retail and makeup as you will be giving makeovers and helping to devise a creative strategy for the store. You could also be a cashier, where you serve the customers at the till and occasionally provide demonstrations. Mac recruits on a temporary basis for Christmas across many stores so you may find the role for you.

About Mac Cosmetics
Mac began life in Toronto, Canada when a makeup artist and a salon owner became frustrated with the lack of photogenic makeup on the market in 1984. They began making products in their kitchen and selling them to fellow makeup artists until the word quickly spread and the first store opened in March 1984.
