As we start to think about packing away all of our warm and heavy winter clothes it’s time to keep an eye on emerging trends for 2018 so we have time to get our Spring/Summer wardrobes in shape and ready.

It’s always a good idea to pack away certain items from specific seasons so you can see everything you have to work with quickly and easily.

When you unpack it again it might be worthwhile having a quick look through to see if you have any “what was I thinking” items that can be discarded.

Adding certain pieces to a season’s wardrobe will help to spruce things up without having to completely overhaul your entire inventory. Some pieces will be able to stand the test of time while others might be worth giving up on.

Spring/Summer 2018 is already shaping up to be an interesting season fashion-wise, so we thought we would look at some of the predictions for this year’s must-have trends.

Pretty Pastels

This summer gentle pastels could be your friend. Layering your pastel items will be a strong look which can complement certain skin tones and keep you looking bright and breezy even on the chillier summer days. Keep an eye out for all things lilac with this being a key shade for the movement.

Embrace the 80s

At the moment everything from movies to music is embracing the 80’s. TV shows like Stranger Things, movies like IT and Guardians of the Galaxy and the surge in Synth music has shown us that we are willing to embrace a decade that was derided not so long ago.

As this trend continues we are seeing more 80’s inspired ideas creep back into fashion and this summer could see an explosion. Keep it simple or keep it cautious by dipping your toe in gently with a simple pair of high waisted jeans and maybe an 80’s band T-Shirt or be bold and throw yourself into it and get yourself some poufy sleeves.

Life’s a Beach

Thinking about hitting the beach? Bold prints, rainbow colours and 60’s chic are in. Hawaiian inspired designs and big jewellery will certainly make a point and have you standing out this summer.

Mac the Knife

Even the nicest UK summers are prone to showers and preparing for that in the sharpest way possible this year will be with the fun and playful transparent rain mac. As well as being practical by keeping you dry on those wet summer days it means you can still show off your summer wardrobe underneath. A double threat if ever there was one.

Sporty Spice

Spice up your summer wardrobe with bold, vintage sportswear. Another nod to the 80’s will see items like colourful shell suit jackets being one of the must-haves of this summer. As urban sportswear continues to prove popular, some brands have been bringing out new lines that could have fitted perfectly into the 80’s or 90’s making it a lot easier to buy.

Looking on eBay can be a bit hit or miss and you often have to wait for a while to find out if you have “won” an item. ASOS is a great option with their Marketplace having some great vintage bargains while the main store carries everything from the top sports brands to a great range of accessories. If you are on the lookout for some extra savings check this out, you will find some great offers and discounts through Groupon.

Accessorise up to Your Eyes

As always you can have fun by accessorising all your outfits from beachwear to your commuting clothes.

Look out for plenty of Totes as they continue to dominate the handy bag market, while bumbags could also make a reappearance due to our embrace of all things vintage.

As far as jewellery goes think Pat Butcher on a bold day. Big, brash and unrepentant should be your ethos when looking at accessories this year.

With plenty of decidedly bland summer fashion trends in the past, it looks like 2018 is going to be bold, exciting and best of all…fun!
